We've been here since October and things are... well in some ways they're great and in other ways they're not so great. I haven't been able to find a job, so instead I've been working on my photography. It hasn't been making enough to pay all the bills without dipping in to my quickly dwindling savings. So things are a little scary. But otherwise things are quite good.

The main reason I wanted to post here today was because I've moved websites and blogs to another server, so be sure to find me over at my new home!

Also, today I made this:

Emmyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14489351241649076939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163993956156876314.post-9496655171300071462010-09-03T21:11:00.000-04:002010-09-03T21:11:18.108-04:00Hey Kiddoos!Yes, it's been a while, hasn't it? Things are happening. Slowly. But hey! that's better than not at all.

You can now buy my prints and cards from Art Star! You can shop their website, but I highly recommend stopping in at their shop if you're ever in the Northern Liberties area of Philly. First, NoLibs is a great area with fantastic restaurants, shops, etc. Not to mention there's tons of the typical Philly stuff within walking distance. But Art Star is a must if you're even close to the area. They have such an amazing collection of work from local artists and other artists from across the country. I could have gone bankrupt in there. But anyway. They're carrying my stuff now. Yay!

1. Bird on Wheels by Lisa Hurwitz
3. Small Bowl by Stephanie Kao for Robert Siegel Ceramics

So that's a step in the right direction! But lots more work to do. And right now I'm a bit distracted with... moving to Oregon! Yeh! So I guess we've got a place to put all our stuff and call home. It's in Jacksonville, which isn't exactly where we wanted to live, but it's an awesome historic town very close to where we wanted. It seems like a fantastic area, with lots of opportunities for the both of us. Looks like we'll be making the long trek across country the end of this month. I don't want to say too much about it yet, but I'm excited!

But for now I must get moving. My Mister is in a wonderful production of Man of La Mancha, and tomorrow I'm heading out to take photos for them again. Must be prepared!Emmyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14489351241649076939noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163993956156876314.post-52991548381298788902010-04-28T17:10:00.000-04:002010-04-28T17:10:34.611-04:00I'm determined.I'm a procrastinator. I slack off. I let great opportunities slip by. And it has really got to end.

One day not too long ago I was going through old messages and found many emails from other artists wanting to collaborate, shop owners asking about selling in their shops, gallery coordinators offering shows, editors of well known design blogs, the list goes on. And I didn't respond to them! Okay, so I guess there were one or two I responded to, but then never followed up on. I mean really, I could kick myself if it were physically possible!

Why do I do this? I would love to be able to live off my photography if I could, and these were means to that end, I frustrate myself beyond belief sometimes!

But that's it. It's stopping now.Emmyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14489351241649076939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163993956156876314.post-11476501968748407322010-04-28T10:32:00.001-04:002010-04-28T11:32:10.716-04:00I'm obsessed with...

fabric and paper flowers.I love the idea of re-using other items to make them. After two and a half years I think my printer and I are finally on the same page. There was much rejoicing last night, continuing this morning when I took a good look at my prints from yesterday/last night in natural light. Aside from a small handful, they all looked perfect!

What? you ask, don't all your prints always look perfect?

Well, no. I've been having constant problems getting the colors just right. For the longest time I was using photoshop to color correct the crap out of all my photos: brightening like crazy, adding so much cyan it looked like my printer had an algae problem. And if I was lucky, the end result would be passable, but still not quite what I wanted.

I don't want to reveal where my stupidity lay, because people who have more experience printing will think I'm a fool for what I was doing, and some of you will think me a fool for what I'm doing now (or not doing, as the case may be). But as I've always thought, it doesn't matter what sort of equipment you're using, it's what you do with it that matters. And if the end result is what you envisioned, well who can argue with that?

Anyway, this is one photo that I printed for the first time, and I'm so excited with how well it printed. Really soft, with muted colors. I love it.

Hope you're having a good weekend!Emmyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14489351241649076939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163993956156876314.post-70935742439875080292010-04-10T17:51:00.000-04:002010-04-10T17:51:44.331-04:00QuotationsThe quotations series is finally complete! Well, maybe. I still have a few other photos that follow the same theme, but these are my favorites, and considering it took 3 years or so to post any more than the "spoon" photo, the series may stop here. But I think it looks lovely!
First of all, Freelance Whales is the best name for a band. Secondly I adore their sound. Here's a brief clip of them performing in the subway in NYC. It's cut off at the end, but you get the idea. I think it's impossible to listen to this and not feel ... i don't know, "happy" doesn't seem strong enough. It's awesome.
That's what happened with me and Moral Orel. I don't know how the rest of the show is, and I don't remember much of that episode, but I remember hating what I watched. I mean, like everyone else, I enjoy some good depressing entertainment every now and again, but this made me want to kill myself. Granted, it was New Years Eve, so I was already in a bad mood, but... you know.

Anyway, it introduced me to the Mountain Goats who's song "No Children" was used during the episode. And now I think I love them. It didn't happen right away, it took a while for some pieces to fall together and make sense, but well... here we are. Enjoy.
It's probably a good thing they never saw the light of glowing computer screen because they were a little more personal than I would have expected. But like I've said before, people don't really ever see this. I should work on that.

But I digress. One was about being/dying alone. That subject itself is nothing exciting, but the date is. With in a week of writing that, I met someone who forced me to change my mind. In the time since then, things haven't been easy, and in fact some of that time was pretty painful, and no matter which path things may have gone down, I've realized a lot of things.

I was going to list them, but I realized that what I wanted to say deserves more than this impulsive post. So perhaps I'll write more again later.

But the point is, at first I was thinking I'd delete the old drafts I found, but I think I'll save them. Remembering is always nice.Emmyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14489351241649076939noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8163993956156876314.post-60850126033516722792009-11-20T08:58:00.005-05:002009-11-20T16:24:19.358-05:00The web of our life is of a mingled yarnI'd been wanting to do a series of yarn photos for a while now, but didn't have the motivation, until earlier this week I had a request. It was only for one photo, so I guess I went a little overboard by doing a series of six. I know I'm not doing anything groundbreaking, but I'm really happy with the results! And it's been a while since I've worked on anything in a serious way. I'm feeling good about these.
okay, first of all, why has no one told me about Fanfarlo before?

and secondly, more importantly, why have I never heard this song before?? I know of Neutral Milk Hotel, and know some of their songs quite well... but somehow this one has slipped by me again and again. But now that I've found it, I adore it.

To follow up my last post, 2008 held several more firsts for me and altogether was a most excellent year. 2009 opened with a whopper of a first and has started pretty craptasticly. But as "they" say, it can only get better, right? (Please someone tell me it can only get better.)

Almost odd how things have seemed to come full circle in this here blog. One of my last posts was about seeing the National at Messiah College, and I was THISCLOSE to seeing Josh Ritter at Messiah this coming weekend.... until I found he was playing just minutes down the road from my house only a few days later! Hooray! I'm insanely excited. But once again, I'll be going it alone. ...hooray...

ps. Josh, I know nothing about you as a person, but if you would be so kind as to fall in love with me immediatly, that'd be super. Thanks.Emmyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14489351241649076939noreply@blogger.com0
